Almaty, Kazahstan – The Jewish community of Kazakhstan has been given a wonderful reason to celebrate, with a recent Brit Mila ceremony that took place in the city of Almaty.

In total, six circumcisions were performed, all of them occurring on the same day. Four of those who underwent the ritual are members of the same family, who reside in Almaty and are active in the life of the local Jewish community. The remaining two boys are not local, having
traveled from another city.
Accompanied by their parents, they were very proud to be entering the covenant of Avraham Avinu.

The operations were successfully performed by Rabbi Yeshaya Shafit, the Chief Mohel of Russia who also serves Jewish communities elsewhere in the Former Soviet Union thanks to sponsorship from the 'Brit Yosef Yitzhak' organization. This institution runs a full-fledged center in Moscow, where the Mohel performs several Britot per day. Following this life-changing procedure, each of the participants chose a Jewish name for himself.
