NIZHNY NOVGOROD, Russia - Jews residing in the city of Nizhny Novgorod experienced double joy this week, with two separate occasions. One involved a Brit Mila, held for two local students and another active member of the Jewish Youth Club. The other happy event was a Bar Mitzva, celebrated by one of the students attending the local 'Tomchei Tmimim' Yeshiva.
The ceremony for the Brit Mila was performed by the Chief Mohel of Russia, Ishaya Shafit, who flew in from Moscow especially for this joyous occasion. Following the circumcision, community member joined these young men in celebration at a major feast.
The Jewish community of Nizhny Novgorod is a member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia.
